Our Story
The Neighborhood Enrichment Project’s story began when Co-founders Scott Speed and Creighton Bryan, both teachers in Metro Atlanta, began to realize that they had a lot in common.
Prior to becoming educators both men had experience in starting a business from scratch. Both men had also spent time in corporate America. Most importantly both men eventually decided to go into education because they felt like they could make a difference in the lives of at-risk youth in underserved communities.
Through their varied real-life experiences they felt like they could bring a prospective on achieving success to the classroom that would inspire youth to realize their potential and reach for success. So they did.
After a short time teaching they both realized that they needed to do more to have the type of positive impact they desired. Discussions about this desire sparked the creation of The Neighborhood Enrichment Project, Inc.
Our First Initiative
The Bridge Youth Leadership Movement is a program designed to develop youth’s knowledge and skills in social etiquette, emotional intelligence, career awareness, health and wellness, financial literacy, and cultural awareness. Our youth will learn that Leadership exists when people are no longer victims of circumstances but participate in creating new circumstances.
Symbolism & Culture
In the traditional sense a bridge is a structure that allows people or vehicles to cross an obstacle such as a river or canal or railway etc. The Bridge Youth Leadership Movement is a symbolic “Bridge” that provides underserved youth access to knowledge and exposures that will assist them with crossing over life’s obstacles and reaching success. Every bridge needs a solid foundation to stand on. The Bridge Youth Leadership Movement stands on the foundational virtues of:
- Accountability- I am responsible for my actions and decisions.
- Discipline- I will learn what is expected from me and do it over and over and over.
- Achievement- I will set obtainable goals and take action.
- Integrity- I will be honest with myself and to others. My words and my deeds match up.
- Personal Growth- I will be proactive in my pursuit of self-improvement.
- Positive Communication- I will communicate to uplift and to solve problems. I will strive to understand first then to be understood.
- Perseverance- I will persist in the face of adversity.
- Tolerance- I will respect the individual differences of others. I will treat people the way that I want to be treated.
Intelligent Inspirations Curriculum
Intelligence is defined as the ability to apply knowledge and skills. The BYLM curriculum is designed to “Inspire” growth, consciousness, and awareness in the following areas.
Career Intelligence
Will provide youth with exposure to a wide range of career fields and opportunities to explore how their innate skills and interest can lead to career satisfaction and financial security.
Cultural Intelligence
An important ingredient to enriching the whole child is providing them opportunities to gain awareness of their cultural roots, while also exposing them to cultural diversity.
Social Intelligence
Will provide youth with a consciousness and awareness of their impact on and the needs of the people and community around them.
Economic Intelligence
Will provide youth with the financial literacy skills needed to build wealth that empowers families and sustains communities.
Emotional Intelligence
Will provide youth with the awareness that they have the power to control their emotions. Our youth will be exposed to the mental toughness techniques that successful people use to persevere in the face of life’s inevitable challenges.
Health Intelligence
Will provide youth with an awareness of the proper nutritional and lifestyle choices that lead to a long healthy prosperous life.
